Frequently Asked Questions

General

  • Having a vet visit your home offers a stress-free, convenient alternative for maintaining your pets health. Many animals feel anxious or frightened in a clinic setting and some have bad memories from previous experiences.

Whilst visiting a clinic may still be required for certain procedures, being able to be quietly examined at home makes for a calmer experience for both pets and pet parents.

Home visits also allow us to observe your pet in their natural environment, which gives us valuable insight into their behaviours and habits, which can be easily missed in a traditional clinic setting.

  • After our initial phone discussion about you and your pet’s needs, we’ll send you an estimate of expected costs and arrange a visit time that suits you.

We’ll also ask for permission to access your pet’s previous medical records. You’re welcome to provide these, or, with your consent, we can contact your previous vet directly. Understanding your pet’s full medical history is very important to us, as it helps us tailor our care to their individual needs.

Please let us know if your pet becomes anxious or fearful during vet visits (for example, growling, biting, or scratching when scared). This helps us plan the safest and most comfortable approach for everyone.

About an hour before our arrival, we recommend settling your pet in a room where they feel safe and relaxed. If your pet has been prescribed any “chill” medication, this is the ideal time to give it.

When we arrive, we’ll spend a few minutes chatting with you before interacting with your pet. This allows them to adjust to a new person in their space. Every pet is different, so we’ll follow their body language and move at a pace that keeps them comfortable. During this time, we’ll also discuss any concerns you have, and any current or past medical conditions.

Once your pet is feeling more at ease, we do a thorough physical examination—an important part of every consultation. If your pet becomes stressed, we’ll minimise handling as much as possible while still ensuring a safe and appropriate medical assessment.

After the examination, we’ll talk through our recommendations, prescribe medications if required, and work with you to plan the next steps.

Payment is required at the end of the consultation and can be made by card or PayID.

Please note: New client appointments require a non-refundable $99 deposit at the time of booking which will be taken off the total consultation fee

  • There are many basic diagnostic tests that can easily be done at home. This includes collecting blood samples, fine needle biopsies of lumps, samples of ears and skin lesions, bandaging wounds and more etc.

In some cases, most commonly for blood collection, we may need to arrange to come back on another day with a vet nurse. It is quite common to need a second pair of hands for these kinds of simple procedures.

  • If you pet requires more advanced diagnostics or surgery, we work in partnerships with local vet clinics to provide comprehensive medical care for your pet. You may have a preferred vet clinic already who we can work with. Alternately we can recommend you to one of our partner clinics in your local area.

End of Life

  • Comfort over cure. Veterinary palliative care is a compassionate, comprehensive approach focused on enhancing the quality of life for pets with terminal, chronic, or age-related illnesses. It focuses on pain management, improving daily struggle and supporting the emotional and physical well-being of both pets and caregivers.

  • Pet euthanasia at home is peaceful and pain free.

Your pet will first be sedated with a tiny injection under the skin. Once they are fully sedated and unaware of their surroundings, an IV catheter will be placed in their leg. This is where the euthanasia solution is administered.

Your vet knows that this is a highly emotional and difficult time. They will talk you through the steps and check in with you along the way.

  • We work with dedicated cremation professionals who will carefully and respectfully look after your pet from the moment they leave your home up until their ashes are returned to you.

If you do not wish to have your pet cremated individually, with ashes returned , that can also be arranged.
